There's plenty of room on the head surface to get a good solid seal.

There's a large dead space at the bottom of the port, behind the gasket. I put a heavy bead of silicone sealant in that space. Two years later it's still there.

I cut it in half so you could see the diffeance in port size vs. gasket size. Notice how the gasket only covers a very thin area at the bottom.
